Pet Hair Cleaning Tips: Spray, Gloves, Laundry

pet hair cleaning tips

In part one of this two-part series, we talked about some of the most effective methods for removing pet hair from a home – methods that can be used by both homeowners and professional cleaners alike. From vacuums to tape rolls, window squeegees and many other options, there are several ways to get rid of pet hair that might work for your setup.

At Healthy Homes Housekeeping, we’re happy to assist with a variety of house cleaning services for clients around Ogden, from basic maintenance cleaning to move-in and move-out solutions, deep cleaning and more. Here are some other basic ways to go about trapping and removing pet hair so it’s not an issue in your home.

Anti-Static Spray

Especially for furniture items made from wood and upholstered fabrics, an anti-static spray can be a great solution. When applied properly, it temporarily reduces the static cling that causes pet fur to stick to those surfaces. That makes it easier to get rid of with a vacuum or simple wiping.

As you’re looking for a good anti-static spray, make sure you read the ingredients carefully to ensure that the product won’t cause discoloration or damage to your furniture.

Rubber Gloves

This is an old trick – but it works! Put on a pair of rubber gloves and run them over areas where pet hair has accumulated. The static electricity will cling to the rubber, and you can simply peel it off when you’re done.

Be sure to use gloves that fit your hands snugly so the fur will pick up easily. Also think about whether you’d prefer to use natural or synthetic rubber, depending on your needs.

Lint Rollers

In other cases, lint rollers are a great solution. These devices come in handheld and larger form factors, allowing you to quickly grab and remove pet hair from furniture upholstery, carpets and more. They’re easy to find in most drug stores and supermarkets, so you can always pick one up if needed.

Lint rollers tend to be effective for large amounts of pet hair, and they can also be used on other materials such as clothing. Be sure to check the lint roller instructions carefully so you know how to use it correctly.

In the Laundry

Finally, you can also use the laundry to get rid of pet hair. Adding a dryer sheet to the load absorbs static electricity and loosens fur, which will help trap it in the washing machine and make it easier to remove when drying.

By using these methods, you’ll be able to make sure that pet hair isn’t an issue in your home. If you need more help with housekeeping, reach out to us at Healthy Homes Housekeeping – we can provide assistance with all your cleaning needs.
